Q: What types of events do you participate in?

A: Outdoor festivals, indoor stage performances, school auditorium events, banquets, weddings, cultural activities, parades, house parties, and all general fundraising events. Los Sambos are also available to present the Bolivian Andean dances in an educational workshop format. Dance and music explanations can be in English, Spanish, or bilingual.

Q: How much do you charge to perform for an event?

A: Honorariums can vary depending on the services and amount of time requested. Contact Los Sambos for a quote. Los Sambos often perform for private parties, festivals, and banquets at a low cost to help support the cause.

Q: If we invite you to our event, how many dances can you perform?

A: We usually perform 1 or 2 dances, but we can perform up to 4 dances. A one hour performance can include live musicians playing the native Andean musical instruments.

Q: How many dancers do you bring with you?

A: Most dances involve 6-8 people. We can reduce or increase the number of dancers depending on the size of the stage.

Q: How much time does your performance require?

A: The duration of each of dance is approximately 10 minutes. We often include a short verbal introduction and description which makes it a total of 15 minutes for each dance. Los Sambos can perform up to 4 dances in one event. So our stage time can range from 15 minutes to one hour (3-4 dances).

Q: Do you have live music?

A: Los Sambos Dance Ensemble is sometimes accompanied by the Andean Musical Group KIYARUNA. If the host desires, a music and dance show can be provided. More info about the live band can be found on www.kiyaruna.com.

Q: Is there anything we need to provide on the day of the performance?

A: There are no additional requirements but things tend to run smoother if the host can provide a dressing room. Any space such as a classroom or office is sufficient. Water or refreshments are welcome but not required.

Q: Are Los Sambos a non-profit group?

A: YES, Los Sambos have official non-profit status. This organization is qualified for federal tax exempt provisions in § 501(c)(3). Any contributors are entitled to a tax deduction for any gift or donation to the organization. According to federal regulations, non-profit groups are required to have elected officers and maintain a public record of finances.

Q: What are the requirements to join Los Sambos as a dancer?

A: We generally accept applicants of age 14 and over. Prior Bolivian dance experience is preferred. New applicants should contact Los Sambos for further information. Even after being accepted, each dancer is required to learn several routines before he/she is eligible to perform.
